June 1st marked the beginning of Kristy Holmes’ term as Austin CPA Chapter President.
Give us your story: how and why you became a CPA. I took accounting in high school and it just clicked, I loved it. My teacher Mrs. Rylander was wonderful, I took four classes with her in high school (typing, computer applications, Accounting 1 and 2). It was in Accounting 2 that I worked on our school’s first windows based computer using QuickBooks.
Everybody’s got one: what was the worst job you’ve had? Actually I have not had a bad job, I had a rather unusual job. Summer of my junior year I built these modules that were for alarm systems for off-shore oil wells. I did burn my finger tips on a soldering iron.
How long have you and your husband been married, how did you meet, and where did you go on your honeymoon? I have been married 9 years and met my husband through mutual friends. We were married and honeymooned in Antigua.
What would you do if you won the lottery? I’d work less and pay off my house.
What are your main goals for the Austin Chapter in your year as president? I’d like to increase our membership and really educate members and future members on the value of TSCPA membership.
