Connie Clark’s year as Austin CPA Chapter President ended on May 31st.
As they say, time flies when you are having fun. It was my honor to serve as your Austin Chapter President for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
Last October, we celebrated the 100th anniversaries of both the Texas Society of CPAs and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. It is an exciting time to be a Certified Public Accountant in Texas!
Some of our accomplishments this year include outreach to area educational institutions, resulting in a record number of scholarship applications and a total of $10,500 awarded to accounting students. We held our first Application of Intent workshop for students and candidates and participated in several career fairs at the college and high school levels.
Members logged in 291 total volunteer hours for great causes like Capital Area Food Bank, Coats for Kids, SafePlace and Turkey Trot. Three training sessions of our Non-Profit Board essentials to community Board members and staff were held as well.
Due to popular demand, our CFO/Controller’s Conference was held at an offsite location. Our attendance doubled. We increased activities for our newest CPAs – LEAP (Leaders Emerging in the Accounting Profession). Other fun member activities included tours of Austin City Limits and the Circuit of the Americas track.
We recently launched our redesigned website. Take a few minutes to check it out while looking for a committee to share your talents with. I encourage you to get involved in whatever way works for you.
The Chapter will continue to thrive in 2016-2017 with our incoming president, Olivia Espinoza-Riley and her executive board members.
