Dripping Springs is becoming what some might call a mecca for breweries, wineries and distilleries as new businesses are popping up frequently. On September 26, a group of TXCPA Austin members had the pleasure of visiting Dripping Springs Distilling for a tour and tasting. We were fortunate to have Gary Kelleher, co-founder of Dripping Springs Distilling, provide us with a history of the business and lead us on a tour of the facility on Bell Springs Road. Copper stills are used to make the various vodka offerings in 50 gallon batches. Mr. Kelleher designed these stills that are custom manufactured in the Austin area. The distillery is undergoing an expansion to increase production and to locate processing of all products to this facility. There are even plans to add a restaurant and larger tasting venue. In the tasting room we sampled three vodkas, including the delicious Dripping Springs Texas Orange, two gins and two bourbons. Mr. Kelleher shared expert knowledge of each product to enhance the tasting experience.

The Behind-the-Scenes tours offered by the TXCPA Austin B&I Committee are a great way to take a break from the daily routine and visit popular and interesting businesses in the Austin area. It’s also a great opportunity to meet members in our organization. Our visit to Dripping Springs Distilling was most enjoyable and many participants chose to bring their favorite vodka, gin or bourbon home to share with family and friends.
