The Texas Society of CPAs and its Young CPAs and Emerging Professionals Committee are hosting the statewide CPA Month of Service during November 2017. This month of volunteer service represents the CPA profession’s ongoing commitment to serving the communities where its members live and work.

The Austin CPA Chapter and LEAP have planned a variety of volunteer opportunities in November, including:

  • Community Tax Centers Volunteer Kick-Off Lunch: Friday, November 3, noon. Please join the Community Tax Centers Kickoff to connect with other volunteers and staff, hear about plans for the upcoming tax season and learn how you can get involved.
  • Central Texas Food Bank: Saturday, November 18, 9:00 am to noon. This shift needs 20 volunteers, ages 8 and over, to help sort food donations.
  • Austin Empty Bowl Project: Sunday, November 19, various shifts all day. Each person must register as an individual. Potters from all over Central Texas donate bowls of all sizes, shapes, and colors. Thirty restaurants and bakeries donate delicious soups and breads, while musicians donate their time and talent to entertain us. Then friends and families come together to purchase a bowl for $20, have it filled with soup and enjoy the music. The bowl is yours to keep, as a reminder of those whose bowls are empty. The proceeds go to Meals on Wheels Central Texas’ Meals for Kids, and the Central Texas Food Bank to help sponsor the Kids Cafe Program which provides a safe, nurturing place where children receive a hot, nutritious dinner, as well as help with homework.
  • Feast of Sharing: Tuesday, November 21, 3:00 to 9:00 pm. This is the largest community Thanksgiving meal in Austin providing dinners to over 14,000 Central Texans each year with the help of over 1,400 volunteers. Each person must register as an individual. Click here for online registration for whichever shift works best with your schedule.
  • We Are Blood: Entire Month. With the several catastrophic disasters all over Texas and the United States, please consider donating blood at one of the We Are Blood’s several locations.
  • Project Care Case provides new and age appropriate suitcases on wheels to each child in foster care. Please bring the below Care Case items to the Austin CPA Chapter offices by Wednesday, December 20:
    • A new(er) small to medium sized suitcase with wheels and a pull handle.
    • NEW pillows, blankets and teddy bears
    • Child friendly Bibles
    • NEW sets of socks, undergarments, outfits, coats, shoes, brushes, shampoo and soap
  • Central Texas Food Bank Food Drive: Entire Month. Please bring non-perishable items to the Chapter’s Training Facility the entire month of November. The most requested items include: Peanut butter, canned chicken breast or tuna, canned low sodium vegetables, canned fruit in its own juice (no sugar added), dry pinto beans, brown rice, non-fat dry milk powder and 100{c407a4918a0504e8ab6981e3e2afb5ab74878247e4c2e6e642d772d8b4156db4} whole grain cereal.

We know many of you volunteer outside of our organization, so your hours count, too! Make sure you fill out TSCPA’s online form so they can track how many hours our wonderful CPAs volunteer throughout the state.

Remember to keep TSCPA in the loop on social media. Share pictures and video, and be sure to include the hashtags #TXCPAService and #CPAsCount. We want to know all about your experiences!

T-Shirts! Please remember to wear your CPAs Count! t-shirt for each volunteer event. If you need a t-shirt or have any questions, please contact Kaira Tanwar.

Here are a couple of pictures from our October 2017 service events: Keep Austin Beautiful/Clean Lady Bird Lake and Central Texas Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who participated!
