In 2004, The Austin CPA Continuing Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, established a scholarship program whose purpose is to provide financial assistance to junior, senior and graduate students who plan to become Certified Public Accountants and enter the accounting profession. TXCPA Austin also offers the highly acclaimed Bette Williams Scholarship to one outstanding student who will someday exemplify the accounting profession. Bette Williams, CPA, is a longtime member of the Texas Society of CPAs (TXCPA) and TXCPA Austin. She is the first woman to receive TXCPA’s highest achievement–The Meritorious Service Award. Ms. Williams also served as TXCPA Austin President during the 1987-88 fiscal year, is a Kenneth W. Hurst Fellow of the TXCPA Accounting Education Foundation and remains very active in TXCPA locally and state-wide.
The first scholarship disbursements were made in 2005 to four students in Austin area schools. The deadline to apply is in November/December each year and scholarships are awarded in time for the spring semester.
