My President’s year is coming to an end. What a ride! Chapter leaders and volunteers have been on fire this year.

We renegotiated the Chapter’s Management Agreement with Texas Society of CPAs to continue leasing our Chapter staff. If you ever contacted the Chapter, you know how wonderful, knowledgeable, and easy to work with Diane, Kaira, Lucy, and Linda are. They make volunteering a breeze and are a tremendous help to Chapter leaders. In addition, the Chapter’s office space lease agreement was renewed for the next ten years. When you come for CPE or to visit the Chapter, we are still in the same spot with plenty of parking. The office and training room might look a little different, as the space is being remodeled and modernized.

The ever-popular CFO/Controllers Conference hit a record of 155 attendees. Scott Perry from Sport Clips and Bobby Jenkins from ABC Home and Commercial Services spoke about the challenges and opportunities of running a growing company. The next CFO/Controller Conference is scheduled for September 20, 2018.

The CPA Finder online system has been updated and became more user friendly. The Finder is an online tool where members can advertise their services. When anyone calls the Chapter asking for a CPA referral, the staff directs all inquiries to the CPA Finder. Did you know that CPA Finder gets over 500 unique visits monthly?

We offered 439 hours of CPE this year; held Chapter Open House; created a Chapter Instagram account; received 46 scholarship applications and awarded 10 scholarships for $12,000. The Chapter’s Non-Profit Board Training was offered twice this year to a packed room with waiting list. Students and candidates filled the training room at the Application of Intent/CPA Exam Changes Workshop in April. A Becker representative gave a short presentation on CPA exam strategies and Donna Hiller from the TSBPA gave a presentation on the application procedures, eligibility, and new components of the exam.

Our members logged close to 200 volunteer hours at Central Texas Food Bank, SafeAlliance School Supply & Holiday Toy Drives, St. Jude 5K, Empty Bowl Project, Lady Bird Lake Clean Up, Coats for Kids, Feast of Sharing, Project Care Case, Trail of Light Fun Run, Habitat for Humanity Remodel. In addition, members participated in CPA career panels at local colleges and universities, area high schools and even one elementary school.

I am continuously amazed at how collegiate and supportive the CPA profession is. Being a part of the CPA Chapter has allowed me to meet so many great people. Our members make a difference in the profession and in the community. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your President. It was a privilege.
