2020 is certainly a year for the record books! So many historic and newsworthy events happened this year but none more than the pandemic has impactede our everyday lives. While the impact has looked and felt different for everyone, one of the main things many of us have had to contend with is moving to a mostly or even 100% virtual environment.
Despite the challenges and need for many to develop an entirely new skillset to accommodate this new way of interacting with others, our TXCPA Austin staff and CPA volunteers were more than ready to take up the challenge in support of our student members!
In the past few months we have been able to hold highly successful events in a 100% virtual format, including 2 classroom career panels, our ever-popular interview and resumé workshop and this weekend’s virtual Meet the Firms event with Austin Community College. In total, more than 20 TXCPA Austin volunteers provided constructive feedback, career guidance and professional insights to 60+ future CPAs from colleges and universities in the Austin area.
I personally helped out at most of these events and my absolute favorite has to be the interview and wesumé workshop. This is the 3rd year that we have held the workshop but first time we have had to do it virtually and it went as perfectly as one could ask! I feel that the one on one format of this event really lends itself to allowing students to really get clear tailored feedback specific to their interests and career goals. On top of that, the dual interview/resumé format allows them to get a back to back dose of this “1 on 1” coaching to help them gain insights from CPAs who come from different backgrounds and levels of experience.
As we look to 2021, no one can say for sure what the future will bring but you can be sure that TXCPA Austin will be ready to continue serving our members in the best way we can!
